The community center Hlaðir is a quiet and peaceful place in the northern side of the fjord Hvalfjörður, about 40 min drive from Reykjavík and 20 min drive from Akranes.

In the community center is a nice dance hall that can seat up to 200 person and fits well for large groups, family gatherings, conferences, concerts and much more. The hall has a large stage, a disco ball, piano, lectern, sound system, a nice bar and a spacious and well equipped kitchen. There is a catering service at Hlaðir and possible to serve food for large and small groups at a reasonable price. Hlaðir is far away in the country side but still only 40 minutes drive from Reykjavík.
There is a large camp site at Hlaðir that can accommodate tents, folding campers, caravans and mobile homes. There is electricity and two barrel barbeques to use. Also a playground for the children. The toilet facilities are good with toilets, showers, waste disposal and facilities to wash the dishes.The swimming pool is on the east side of the community center with spacious locker rooms and a steam bath. The pool is 17 meters long and also has a childrens pool, waters slide and two hot tubs. It is possible to rent the swimming pool outside of usual opening hours.
The occupation museum
The occupation history in the fjord is quite important and therefor the occupation museum is located at Hlaðir. The history of the occupation in the years 1940 – 1945 is told and relics are shown that are connected to the history and culture of those times.
The museum is open daily from 11:30 – 18:00. The entrance fee is 1.250 kr.Opening time
