Ártún is in the rural district of Grýtubakkahreppur by road no 83. It is between the church place Laufás and the village Grenivík.
When driving east from Akureyri you make a left turn onto road no 83. It is only about 30 minutes drive from Akureyri.
A short distance is to Grenivík where there are a grocery store, swimming pool, museum, galleries and much more. A lot of interesting sights are close to Ártún such as the museum at Laufás. Beautiful walking paths, a colourful birdlife, horse riding trips and beautiful sunset is some of the things that fascinate.

The camp site is kept well maintained and are in a flatland. The space is almost infinite which offers those who want the possibility to be alone. The underlay is different if you are in a mobile home or a tent.
The area around Ártún is ideal for walking and hiking. The mountain Kaldbakur is 1.167 meters high and has good walking paths to the top. For those who want an easier mountain than the mountain Þengilhöfði is about 260 meters high. It is also popular to walk on the mountain Laufáshnjúkur that is about 662 meters high. It is a fairly easy walk altough the last part is a bit steep. From the top of Laufáshnjúk is a great view over the fjord Eyjafjörður.
