The town Mosfellsbær has the speciality of being a small town in the city since it is located in the outskirts of the capital area. It is a cosy area to camp in and enjoy the peace and quiet of small towns but in a very short distance from all the sights and culture in Reykjavík. There are many sights and historic sights in the town such as the waterfalls Álafoss, Tröllafoss and Helgufoss as well as the river Varmá, the church Mosfellskirkja and the relics by Hrísabrú.There are many artists and artist galleries in the town. The town is also the hometown of the Nobel price writer Halldór Laxnes. His former home is now a museum locted in the valley Mosfellsdalur.
The people of Mosfellsbær take good care of their surroundings and like the outdoor life. Horesmanship is a prominent part of the daily life with riding paths all around the town. There are also many walking paths from the shores to the mountains. The town has two golf courses and a good bird watching facilities.
